Prashant Veer made heads turn at the IPL 2026 Auction after being picked up for a record-breaking price of Rs 14.20 crore by Chennai Super Kings. From a base price of Rs 30 lakh, it was an unprecedented climb for Veer who might be an unknown name for those who don't follow a lot of Indian domestic cricket.
However, it is safe to say that Veer is an asset buy for the Super Kings. Yes, the price might seem a bit high but that comes with the dynamics of mini-auctions. For starters, Veer is a genuine all-rounder in white-ball cricket, capable of being in the side as a pure batter or pure bowler. And yes, he is also an absolute gun on the field.

Veer shot to fame during the UP T20 League 2025 where he scored 320 runs and also picked up eight wickets in the tournament. With a career strike-rate of 167 in T20s, the left-hander is a lethal striker of the cricket ball and gives immense firepower to the teams he plays for. He can float anywhere in the middle order and is equally adept against pace as well as spin.
Not just in his state's domestic T20 league, Veer is also going great guns in age-group tournaments and was recently the Player of the Tournament in the U-23 Inter-State Trophy 2025-26, amassing 289 runs with the bat and 15 wickets with the ball. By all yardsticks, Veer looks a genuine all-round prodigy who is on track to play for India in the coming decade.

With Ravindra Jadeja's exit, India now have a like-for-like replacement in terms of the skill set. Of course, Veer is young and raw, but the similarities with Jadeja of 2008-09 are hard to miss. CSK's heavy investment on Veer show that they are looking for a major overhaul in terms of their squad.
