Two days remain for Lionel Messi's much-awaited GOAT India Tour that kicks-off on Saturday (December 13) in Kolkata and Hyderabad. The caravan then moves to Mumbai (December 14) and will sign off in India's capital city of New Delhi (December 15). The Kolkata leg of the tour has already grabbed headlines for two massive reasons.

The first of those is the 70 foot statue of Messi that has been constructed at the Sreebhumi Sporting Club in Kolkata. It is said to be the biggest-ever statue of the footballing legend anywhere in the world. It has reportedly been constructed using the latest fibre technology by renowned artist Monty Pal and his ensemble group.

Coincidentally, Messi's last visit to India back in 2011 also happened in Kolkata, courtesy an international friendly match against Venezuela. This time, though, Kolkata will see a more hectic schedule as Messi is expected to arrive at around 1.30 am on December 13. The morning schedule will see a formal meet-and-greet programme with the fans.

Messi's statue will also be unveiled virtually at the Salt Lake Stadium and shortly after that, Messi is expected to arrive at the venue. Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan is one of the biggest names expected for the afternoon with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and former Indian captain and Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) chief Sourav Ganguly slated to arrive later on.

A friendly football game is planned, featuring some high-profile celebrities of various fields with Messi leading the way. Khan posted on the social media site X about his participation for the GOAT event. Known to be an avid sports fan himself, the 60-year-old is also the co-owner of the IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders and has been known for his passion for football.

"This time round not planning my Knight in Kolkata…. and hoping the day Ride is completely ‘Messi’.

See you guys on the 13th at the Salt Lake Stadium." wrote Khan on X.
