Cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara's brother-in-law Jeet Pabari died by suicide at his residence in Rajkot on Wednesday.

Pabari's wife and mother were on the ground floor when the incident happened. Around 11 am, his wife found him dead when she came to the first floor. He was rushed to Wockhardt Hospitals but was declared brought dead. The body was sent for post-mortem.

Who was Jeet Pabari?

Jeet Pabari, 30, is the brother of Pujara's wife Puja Pabari. He was running an import-export business and tied the knot less than a year ago.

The suicide occurred exactly a year after his fiancee filed a rape complaint against him on November 26, 2024, accusing him of forcing her into a sexual relationship with the promise of marriage. This has raised speculations that the mental stress surrounding the case may have led him to take the extreme step.

The family members said he was suffering from depression for the past two months and was under treatment. The Gujarat High Court had earlier granted him anticipatory bail.

He was found hanging from a nylon rope tied to a window of his room on the first floor of the family's bungalow near Kalavad Road, Malaviya Nagar.

ACP B.J. Chaudhary said the police will carry out a forensic examination at the house and talk to the family members. "They are not able to talk right now. The cause of the incident is not clear, and it would be premature to comment at this stage," he told media.
