Mohammed Shami isn't having the best time, as far as his international career goes. The pace veteran hasn't played for India since the 2025 Champions Trophy and while debates continue over his non-selection, his career in the Indian Premier League seems far from over.

Currently with SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH), Shami has gained the interests of two IPL franchises as the trade deadline nears. According to the tournament's off-season guidelines, November 15 is the final date for the IPL franchises to give their list of retentions. Which means that all trade deals need to be completed within this period.

The 35-year-old was bought for a whopping amount of Rs 10 crore at the 2025 IPL Mega Auction and it his fee that is allegedly tempting SRH to go for a trade. Of course, they can release Shami and then try to get him back at the mini-auction scheduled in December. According to sources close to the SRH camp, a one-way cash trade seems more probable.

Lucknow Super Giants, known for their pace-heavy strategy, have already expressed their interest in Shami but they aren't alone. Delhi Capitals, another franchise known to love the fast bowling strategy, is also in the race with both teams looking for a one-way cash trade with Shami.

While DC are headed by Ricky Ponting, the presence of Sourav Ganguly in their management seems to be a big reason behind the Shami move. The former India captain has been vocal about Shami's skills over the years and recently, spoke strongly in favour of the fast bowler after his omission from the national squad for the Australia tour.

In terms of favourable conditions, LSG would be a better home for Shami, given that the pitches have had help for the fast bowlers in Lucknow. On the other hand, SRH and DC have home venues which in recent years have been graveyards for bowlers. This decision, understandably, isn't in Shami's hands.

Whom will SRH trade Shami to? LSG or DC? Or will the 2016 champions make a last-minute twist and retain the fast bowler. The final option seems improbable but the IPL has seen bigger twists. All eyes on November 15.
