Former Chelsea and Brazil midfielder Oscar required hospitalisation after losing consciousness during a workout due to a heart condition. The 34-year-old is considering retirement as a consequence of the illness, some reports claimed.

Oscar, who left for China in his prime, had returned to his childhood club São Paulo last year. When he became uncomfortable, the club's medical team were on site, who then shifted him to the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, a club statement said. "The player was then taken to the hospital, where he is currently in stable condition and remains under observation for further tests to clarify the diagnosis," it read.

According to Brazilian media reports, Oscar was using an exercise bike when he collapsed and lost consciousness for a couple of minutes. Reports claimed that he underwent diagnostic catheterisation and an MRI for further assessment. The catheterization procedure was conducted for the cardiologists to assess the condition of his heart better.

Since he was diagnosed with a cardiac abnormality earlier in August, he is now considering all options in front of him, including a termination of his São Paulo contract that runs until 2027.

“As per standard procedure and respecting the player's privacy, further information will be released as soon as there is an update from the medical team, in agreement with Oscar,” the club statement said.

Oscar, one of the tragic heroes of Brazil's 7-1 FIFA World Cup trouncing at home, managed over 200 appearances for Chelsea across five seasons before making an astonishing move to China's Shanghai Port. He had scored 38 goals and 31 assists en route to his two Premier League titles with the London side.
