The 2025-26 La Liga season is once again a title race between the two arch-rivals although Villareal have also had a good start to the season. After nine games, Real Madrid have 24 points and Barcelona 22, and like most La Liga seasons, the El Clasico duels are likely to decide the title race.

A win for Madrid will increase their lead at the top of the table to five points and will give Xabi Alonso's men reasonable buffer as the season schedule starts to really pile up. However, if Hansi Flick's boys emerge victorious, Barca will get to the top of the table but with just a slender one-point lead. To state the obvious, this is a high-stakes battle.

TEAM NEWS

Real Madrid

The hosts are on a four-match winning streak across all competitions. After being hammered 2-5 by city rivals Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid beat Villareal 3-1 and Getafe 1-0 in the La Liga. Meanwhile, they also notched up Champions League wins over Kairat (5-0) and Juventus (1-0). Eder Militao and Dean Huijsen are set to return while Trent Alexander-Arnold is in doubt for this fixture.

Flick's men have won two games on the bounce but the 1-2 defeat to PSG and 1-4 embarrassment to Sevilla will be fresh in the visitors' memories. They also have injury and suspension concerns with plenty of key players unavailable including Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Gavi and Dani Olmo.
