Real Madrid vice-captain Federico Valverde is not up for sale. And if any bidder is hell-bent on getting the versatile Uruguayan, he is going to cost them €1 billion, reports in Spain confirmed. The reports come not long after Manchester United were preparing transfer offers for Valverde.

Last week, news reports had indicated that United are open to giving Real Madrid midfielder Kobbie Mainoo and €50 million in exchange for Valverde. Fresh reports claim that neither Real Madrid nor the player himself were interested in taking the conversation any further. 27-year-old Valverde received a standing ovation at the Santiago Bernabéu after coming up with a commendable performance as the right-back during Sunday's La Liga clash against Villarreal. Federico was forced to start in the full-back position in the absence of Dani Carvajal and Trent Alexander-Arnold. It was however not a fresh challenge for the star who has, over the years, operated in the midfield, wing, and defensive roles for the Los Blancos.

Ever since Xabi Alonso took over as gaffer, the vice-captain has not been performing his best, boosting the transfer rumours. Valverde coming up with a solid performance against Villarreal, however, helped him further remind Real Madrid of his importance.

Valverde was unhappy that some of his statements were taken out of context by some media reports. This was believed by a section of Real Madrid fans, who thought their vice-captain was thinking about leaving after being at loggerheads with the gaffer, who is a former player. However, Fede wishes to put all the controversy behind him and demonstrate his talent on the pitch, Defensa Central said in a report. The club has his back and is willing to declare that the midfielder is one of the most important members of the squad -- worthy of the untouchable status, the report added.
Valverde's current contract, which runs until 30 June 2029, has a release clause of €1 billion. If anybody wishes to get him, then they have to trigger it, Real Madrid maintains. While the scenario will make the Uruguayan the most expensive footballer on the planet, it is an almost impossible ask -- a Real Madrid way of stating that he is not up for sale!
