The much-anticipated Durand Cup 2025 quarterfinal fixtures were declared late yesterday, with the highlight being the Kolkata derby between Mohun Bagan Super Giant and East Bengal FC.
Four ISL teams – Mohun Bagan Super Giant (Group B winners), East Bengal FC (Group A winners), NorthEast United FC (Group E winners) and Jamshedpur FC (Group C winners) – made it to the last eight. The other teams are Shillong Lajong FC (Group E runners-up), Indian Navy FT (Group F winners), Bodoland FC (Group D winners) and Diamond Harbour FC (Group B runners-up).
Indian Navy made it to the knockout stage in thrilling fashion, with late goals from Pintu Mahata and Sreyas V.G. helping them bounce back from a one-goal deficit to overcome TRAU FC 2-1 yesterday. Meanwhile, Bodoland FC scored a commanding 4-0 win over ITBP FT.

Incidentally, the Durand Cup quarterfinal fixture announcement, too, had some drama. There were reports earlier that the Kolkata derby would not take place on August 17, as, traditionally, Durand Cup group winners are no pitched against each other. According to MyKhel.com, the quarterfinal draw was to be done on Zoom in the presence of representatives of all eight teams at around 9pm. Post the draw, Mohun Bagan secretary Srinjoy Bose, reportedly, posted on Facebook a set of fixtures, which showed Mohun Bagan drawn up against Jamshedpur FC and East Bengal against Diamond Harbour FC, contrary to what earlier reports had suggested.
However, when Durand Cup official handles put out the fixture, Mohun Bagan SG were pitched against East Bengal FC. They deleted it, and re-uploaded it later, reported MyKhel.com, adding to the drama. Bose, too, deleted his Facebook post.
