In a fallout of the ongoing conflict between India and Pakistan, BCCI has officially suspended IPL 2025 until further notice. The new schedule will be announced later. A BCCI official told PTI that continuing the event in the current situation would not look appropriate.

It is quite likely that the new schedule for continuation would be possible only after the India-England series scheduled for June 20 to August 4. The venues are Headingley, Edgbaston, Old Trafford, Lord’s and the Oval.

On the night of May 8, the IPL match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala was called off after just 10.1 overs of play. The floodlights went dark, following which fans were evacuated from the stands.

Players of both teams were being moved to Delhi by road, reports said—as Kangra Airport, which services Dharamshala, is closed. It does not help the IPL that viewership will drop if the conflict continues. So, the decision makes for good optics and better business.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL), too, is hit and has been moved to the UAE for the remainder of the season. During the cross-border attacks on May 8, a drone, alleged to be of Indian origin, fell near Rawalpindi stadium where the Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi were due to play.

Earlier in the day, the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA), Bangladesh Cricket Board, Cricket West Indies and Cricket Australia had said that they were in touch with the Pakistan Cricket Board and BCCI regarding the safety of their players.

Interestingly enough, there has been no confirmation from the official X handles of the BCCI and the Indian Premier League.
