28-year-old Thomas Craig was arrested on Tuesday night. The man was caught buying cocaine in the 9th arrondissement of Paris at around 12:30 a.m. He was taken into custody on Wednesday morning, AFP learned from police sources and the public prosecutor's office.
Craig had played on Sunday in his country's defeat to the Netherlands in the quarter-finals of the men's hockey event at the Paris Olympic Games.
The player was arrested as police officers had just "witnessed a cocaine transaction" at "the foot of a building", the sources said. The player was in possession of "approximately one gram of cocaine", the police source added. The seller, aged 17, was carrying various narcotics including "75 ecstasy pills", cocaine and synthetic drugs, the police source added. He was also arrested.

According to the public prosecutor's office, both were in custody on Wednesday morning. "In view of the quantities of narcotics seized from the seller, the investigations have been entrusted to the Narcotics Brigade" of the Paris Judicial Police, the public prosecutor's office added.
"The Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) confirms that a member of the national field field hockey team is in police custody after being arrested in Paris on August 6. No charges have been laid. The AOC continues to enquire about supporting the team member," wrote the Australian Olympic Committee in a statement.
