Daisuke Sakai scored his first goal for the club in the 32nd minute of the game but Kerala Blasters FC's hero for the day was their young goalkeeper Sachin Suresh who saved a spot-kick in the second consecutive ISL match. Sachin Suresh denied East Bengal's Brazilian Cleiton Silva not once but twice after the match referee signalled a retake after the initial strike.

The young Kerala custodian stopped the ball but the rebound reached Silva, who blasted the rebound over Sachin's bars. Minutes later, Dimitrios Diamantakos made it 2-0 for the away team at the Salt Lake Stadium after a deflected ball fell kindly at his feet inside the box. KBFC finished the game with 10 men as Diamantakos got a second yellow for taking off his jersey to celebrate the goal.

However, there was more drama in the contest that saw 7 players being shown the yellow card. East Bengal was awarded another penalty in the 96th minute as Cleiton Silva did find the top corner this time with the last kick of the game.

Earlier, K Peprah couldn't reach a perfect cross from the right wing from Sandeep's. Had he been an inch closer, the Kochi outfit would have had a goal in the second minute of the game. KBFC now got 13 points from 6 games. Mohu Bagan sit second with 12 points after 4 games.
