Bruno Fernandes has signed a new deal that will keep him at Manchester United until June 2026, with an option to extend for another year.

“Even after two years, it still feels amazing to step out at Old Trafford, to hear the fans sing my song and to score in front of the Stretford End,” Fernandes said.

The Portuguese midfielder has scored 49 goals and provided 39 assists in his 117 games for the club since he joined from Sporting in January 2020.

Though not in his best form this season, he scored two goals for his national team in the World Cup qualifying playoff match against North Macedonia to seal Portugal's place at the tournament.

There was speculation over his contract situation as there are talks of revamping the Manchester squad this summer. The 27-year-old's contract extension hence comes as a huge relief for fans.

Rangnick slams Van Gaal

Manchester United's manager Ralf Rangnick has hit out at former team manager Louis van Gaal for calling United a 'commercial club' that Rangnick should not have joined.

The coach of the Dutch national team had warned his countryman Erik ten Hag not to take the United job this summer as the club is only interested in money and not trophies.

"Louis himself as an experienced coach signed a contract here some five or six years ago and he could have known that in advance if he had that opinion,” said Rangnick.

"I think football worldwide and even more so in the English Premier League when any rich person or company can buy a club, as long as they pass the fit and proper person test, is a commercialised business, that's for sure.

"No matter which club in which city. What I can only tell you from the last four months is that this is a club with a big tradition with a close relationship with the supporters and to the whole city, region and area.

"For me, it's a great club and if the club draws the right conclusions on what's happened in the last couple of years—yes, the last couple of years have not been as good as expected—but if they draw the right conclusions I still see a very bright future for this club."

Ten Hag is among the frontrunners for the job at United along with Mauricio Pochettino and Luis Enrique. Rangnick, who is the interim manager, will take on a technical role at the end of the current season.
