India cricketer Ishant Sharma became only the second Indian bowler to play 100 Tests after former captain Kapil Dev. The third Test between India and England, being staged in Motera Stadium from Wednesday, marked the milestone for the pacer.
Overall, Ishant is only the 11th player to represent India in 100 Tests. In the list of Indian players to play 100 Tests, only three other bowlers are featured: Anil Kumble (132), Kapil Dev (131) and Harbhajan Singh (103).
“Congratulations to @ImIshant who becomes the fourth India bowler to play 100 Tests! Massive achievement,” the ICC’s official account tweeted.
“Test Match No.100 for @ImIshant. What a moment for the senior speedster. Congratulations champ,” the BCCI congratulated the pacer on Twitter.
After England won the toss and chose to bat, Ishant struck in the third over to remove Dominic Sibley for naught, giving India a boost in the first session of the match.
The refurbished Motera Stadium, meanwhile, was renamed after Prime Minister Narendra Modi Stadium when it was inaugurated by President Ram Nath Kovind on Wednesday ahead of the day-night Test.
