An Indian player is said to have been approached by a nurse from Delhi during the 2020 IPL staged in the UAE for “inside information” on IPL matches in order to bet on them, as per reports.

The nurse, posing as a doctor working at a South Delhi hospital, allegedly approached the player on September 30 while the Indian Premier League was under way, and asked for confidential information relating to the team, a report in the Indian Express said.

The player, whose identity has not been revealed, promptly reported the matter to the Anti-Corruption Unit of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. The report further said that the player represented India a few years ago, but is not part of the current team.

The development was confirmed by Ajit Singh, ACU chief, who said the matter was now “closed”. The report said that the matter was investigated soon after the ACU was intimated, and while the nurse had no connections with betting syndicates, no further lead was found.

The cricketer is said to have met the nurse online three years ago when she approached him on social media, claiming to be a fan. The IE report also said that the player recently connected with her to seek advice on precautions to take against COVID-19.

He later told the ACU that he never met her in person, and had interacted with her only on social media.

When the nurse asked for “inside information”, the cricketer responded by warning her that he would inform the authorities about her query. She replied that she would delete all the messages and not tell anyone about their conversations.
