India opener Rohit Sharma on Tuesday became only the second batsman to hit four centuries in a World Cup. Rohit equalled the record held by ex-Sri Lanka cricketer Kumar Sangakkara in the 2015 edition. 92 balls during the match against Bangladesh at Edgbaston.
Rohit hit 122*, 140 and 102 in the matches against South Africa, Pakistan and England respectively. His century came off 92 balls and included included seven fours and five sixes after he was dropped by Tamim Iqbal early during India's innings.
The 32-year-old also surpassed David Warner to become the leading run-scorer in the ongoing World Cup. Rohit has scored 544 runs so far in the tournament, while Warner's tally stands at 516.
On the way to his fourth ton, Rohit also broke Mahendra Singh Dhoni's record of hitting the most number sixes in One Day Internationals. He overtook Dhoni, who has hit 228 sixes in ODIs.
Rohit, however, got out soon, caught by Liton Das off a Soumya Sarkar delivery in the 29th over.

India won the toss and chose to bat first against Bangladesh. A win over Bangladesh would ensure the Men in Blue a smooth entry into the semifinals of the tournament.
India, who are placed second in the table with 11 points, were undefeated in the World Cup until their encounter with England in the previos match. The hosts, who posted 337/7, stopped India in its tracks and won by 31 runs on Sunday. Australia is the only team to have entered the last four stage thanks to their consistent performance throughout the tournament, barring their loss against India.
