Key software for Dell EMC's PowerEdge servers, which leverage the new Intel Xeon processor range, was 'made in India'

The world leader in servers, Dell EMC, has globally (including India) launched the 14th iteration of its popular PowerEdge server family. The new series of 6 servers which encompasses both rack (horizontal form factor) and blade (vertical) are fueled by Intel's new Xeon Scalable processor family, which was announced simultaneously and are designed with a sharp focus on the booming data centre business.

The PowerEdge R940 can handle mission-critical applications like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and e-commerce. The R 740 is more of a workhorse and angled towards the new trend of software defined storage and cloud based virtual servers. Full range described here.

Large chunks of the underlying software was developed by Indian engineers at the Dell EMC Bangalore Design Centre, said B. Rudramuni, Vice President and Centre Head. In particular, the entire work on Redfish, the industry standard for management of data centres was done in India. India is Dell's largest R&D centre outside the US.

Said Rajesh Janey, President & Managing Director, India Enterprise, Dell EMC: “To begin their transformation journey, Indian enterprises have begun to optimize IT by modernizing, automating and transforming technologies, people, and processes. The 14th Generation PowerEdge servers allow them to Scale, Automate, and Protect their business.”

The scalable business architecture of PowerEdge servers provide customers the flexibility to adjust to changing business needs in an environment of virtualized and cloud-native workloads that are moving to the new Software-defined data centre era, added Manish Gupta, SenGeneral Manager, Compute & Networking Group, Dell EMC India.

(Tech note: Software-defined data centre (SDDC) is one in which infrastructure is virtualized and delivered “as-a-service”—based on demand)

In a simultaneous announcement at its Round Rock, Texas, headquarters in the US, Dell Inc -- the company within the Dell family that handles its client computing offerings -- unveiled a range of desktop virtualization solutions including the flagship Dell Latitude 3480, a 14-inch portable platform, as well as the Wyse Management Suite that allows organisations to configure and manage tens of thousands of 'thin client' PCs in a network.

The merger of Dell with storage leader EMC, completed in September last year, has made this the world's largest privately owned technology company.
