The Summer Game Fest (SGF) this year, sandwiched between PlayStation's State of Play and the XBOX Game Showcase, may have ended weeks ago, but the games featured in it are still dominating the conversation.
A number of these announcements promised fans a major return to the nostalgia of the classic games, from the Golden Age of Piracy to the high-fantasy world of Tyria.

Here are six games featured in SGF 2026 that take you back to the good ol' days:
Resident Evil Veronica (2027)
Capcom’s latest title in the Resident Evil series is another return to the classic Resident Evil: Code Veronica (2000) in more ways than one—it is not only going to be a third-person shooter, but is also being developed by the team that remade Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4.
As with its other remakes, the story of Code Veronica will be remade to develop more continuity with the overall lore of the game’s universe, while the gameplay will be polished as well.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced (July 9, 2026)
Easily one of the most-awaited titles from the Summer Game Fest 2026, Ubisoft’s remake of the 2013 blockbuster game isn’t just meant to look better on screens because it is made by its in-house Anvil engine.
The game will see plot changes for fan-favourite characters like the formidable Blackbeard and the endearing Stede Bonnet, more flexible tailing missions, and new sea shanties, including a darker, more visceral take on Leave Her Johnny by Woodkid.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation (2027)
Remake. Rebirth. And now, with Revelation, Square Enix is finally planning a big farewell to its ambitious retelling of the world of the 1997 game, replete with better worldbuilding, better combat, and better minigames.
As Cloud, Tifa, Sephiro, Barret and other characters wrap up their plotlines, gamers will be able to choose how some of their storylines go, although there can only be “one singular ending” for the game.
CONTROL Resonant (September 24, 2026)
The action RPG sequel to the award-winning CONTROL from Alan Wake developers Remedy Entertainment takes place after Dylan Faden is deployed by the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) to tackle supernatural forces that have broken free from the Oldest House.
You also get many new story missions, side quests, and puzzles, while also revisiting previously unseen areas of the Oldest House from the original game.
Mafia: The Old Country - Man of Honor (August 14)
This expansion pack for the 2025 game sees you reprise the role of Enzo Favara, who fights to rise up the ranks of organised crime in 1900s Sicily.
You also get to see Ennio Salieri’s early days in the Valle Dorata via two new story chapters, in addition to new Free Ride content.
Guild Wars 3 - TBA
The third entry into the famed action-adventure MMORPG franchise—and the first title since 2012—will be set in the world of Tyria itself, but, as ArenaNet says, will be “its own kind of game”.
Set to begin beta testing in 2027, the makers of Guild Wars 3 have also promised no subscriptions, no pay-to-win, and respecting players’ time, which has heightened anticipation for its release.
