The mood at the opening night of Europe's biggest gaming festival, which kicked off on August 25 in Germany's Cologne, was nothing but electric, offering two hours of very interesting reveals that set the tone for what's next.
If you missed the livestream, don't fret, because we bring you the biggest announcements you need to have on your radar.
Here are six games that showed up at Opening Night Live (ONL) that you should be hyped up for:
Nodusfall
The first and arguably one of the most compelling ONL reveals is this dark fantasy action title from miHoYo, the Chinese brains behind Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail.
HoYo head honcho Liu Wei has also described it as an "un-miHoYo game", indicating it junks its usual anime formula in favour of Monster Hunter-like co-op battles against enormous mythical creatures.
Gears of War: E-Day
The latest cinematic trailer for this blockbuster XBOX exclusive offers a good look at Vraahk, the chief of the Locust Horde in this prequel game set around Emergence Day.
Often compared to General RAAM, the formidable villain of the original Gears of War, the battle-hardened Vraahk and his Locust Horde will take on Marcus, Dom, and the rest of Bravo Squad in the battle for humanity that you can join on October 6 this year.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past
While online praise for CD Projekt Red's respect for gamers resurfaced ahead of the release of the game's third expansion pack set in Letten, fans had another surprise waiting for them.
From September 29 this year, Wild Hunt will get a remaster, packed with a huge suite of new features, including improved graphics, enhanced combat, revamped movement, a reworked skill tree and much more, while Songs of the Past comes in 2027—both free for folks with access to the base game.
Silent Hill: Townfall
A year after the release of the highly acclaimed Silent Hill f, which gave us a beautiful, yet deeply unsettling story set in 1960s Japan, KONAMI offered another look at Townfall, the latest spinoff in its revered horror franchise.
Set in the Scottish island of St Amelia, this first-person psychological horror title is all set to make an impact on September 24 this year.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation
The new trailer for the final part of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, introduced by series director Naoki Hamaguchi, gives you the best look yet at a whole bag of goodies.
You get to see three colossal superbosses known as WEAPONs, the new FITS system that allows characters to switch roles by wearing different outfits, and new modes of getting around, like parachuting and ziplining. The game drops in spring 2027.
Metro 2039
Just when you thought the Metro series from Ukrainian developers 4A Games couldn't get more gritty and awesome, they proved you wrong with the newest, high-octane trailer for Metro 2039, the sequel to Exodus.
From February 2027, you get to play as The Stranger, a recluse plagued by violent nightmares who is forced to return to Moscow Metro and the brutal regime that lords it—the Novoreich, led by a Spartan Fuhrer named Hunter.
