Halo Studios' highly anticipated remake of the 2001 classic and the father of the Halo franchise, Halo: Combat Evolved, that got the ball rolling, has more than one reason for fans from different generations to return to it.

From a revamped atmosphere to thoughtful tweaks, the return gamers and first-time players both have a lot to say about Halo: Campaign Evolved and its return to the beginning of super-soldier John-117's (Master Chief) fight against the Covenant and the Flood.

Here are five features of the remake that fans have been praising:

The 'Library' overhaul

Often regarded as one of the most tedious missions in first-person shooter history, the Library mission is broken down and reassembled in the remake, much to fans' delight.

You now have better visuals with way less repetitions, not to mention the new areas and light bridge mechanics that make it less of the punishingly hard chore you had to crawl through.

A revamped ‘343 Guilty Spark’ mission

One of the most iconic missions in the original franchise seems to get its due from Campaign Evolved, with both new and long-time gamers appreciating how good the changes work together.

From the unnerving headcam footage and lesser lighting to a gripping atmosphere and crisp dialogue, this mission has now become one of the strongest qualities of the long-awaited remake.

Multiplayer and Campaign Remix

Two more of the biggest changes to the remake include an all-new multiplayer mode that supports up to four players and levels adjusted to fit them better.

Catching three of the many new Skulls in the game also gets you access to Campaign Remix, a new replay mode that lets you randomise enemy types and weapon placements, and if you're feeling particularly punishing, Armistice, which sees every single enemy type join forces against you.

Bonus missions in 'Operation: METEORITE'

Though most people unanimously say that the three bonus prequel missions—Boarding Action, The Most Dangerous Game, and Heavy Burden—suffer from bad writing, not everyone has been hard on them.

In fact, reviewers and fans have noted the unique Skulls you get with these missions and the environment design, with some even venturing to call them fun (-ish?).

A revamped weapons arsenal

Apart from a number of new weapons in the sandbox, such as SMGs, Needle Rifles, Fuel Rod Cannons, and Beam Rifles, you also get minor tweaks with the existing weapons that make them very useful.

As if that was not enough, you also get better sound effects and haptic feedback from all weapons in the remake to truly convince you that you can actually take the Flood head on.
