Perplexity announced that it is launching its AI-powered Comet browser in India. However, it will only be available to pro subscribers.
The Chromium-based browser blends the standard web browser interface with an AI sidebar. The AI-first browser can shop on your behalf, schedule meetings and summarise research, compare product prices, send emails and complete transactions.
It can also track projects across tabs and maintain task continuity.
The Coment browser was first introduced in July 2025 and is currently available for Mac and Windows devices. Android users can pre-order it on the Google Play Store. IOS supported versions are to be revealed later.
Comet combines the traditional browsing experience with an always-on AI sidebar, which was described as 'agentic'. Comets’ workspace allows users to access all information in one place instead of switching tabs like on traditional web browsers like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.
When authorised, Comet Assistant can follow and track multistep workflows across multiple tabs on the browser. It can compare prices of products on two different tabs. It can also track what users have already read and what they are searching for.
According to perplexity, the aim is to reduce clutter and let the browser carry a context on the task rather than just having isolated pages.
Ocmet also stores browsing history and AI interacts locally with end-to-end encryption and has built-in integrations with password managers.
Perplexity has pushed the browser early on one of the largest internet-using populations in the world.
To help its adoption, the company partnered with Bharti Airtel and offers Airtel customers complimentary access to Perplexity Pro for one year.
The company's cofounder and Ceo, Aravind Srinivas, called Comet a thinking partner rather than a browser tab.
Along with Comet Perplexity, it also unveiled the Email assistant, a tool to handle email tasks.
