Eyes in the skies, folks: a partial solar eclipse—the second and final solar eclipse of 2025—is set to grace the skies on Sunday starting from approximately 1:30 PM EDT (11 PM IST) and ending by 6 PM EDT (3:30 AM IST on Monday), with maximum coverage expected at about 3:40 PM EDT (1:11 AM IST on Monday).

Also called Surya Grahan, it will be clearly visible from parts of Australia, New Zealand, and Antarctica, but not India. This is because solar eclipses take place during the day.
The next solar eclipse will take place less than 6 months later, on February 17, 2026, according to TimeandDate.
Unlike today's partial solar eclipse, February 17 will see an annular solar eclipse. It will be visible from the southern parts of South America and Africa, as well as parts of the Indian Ocean and Antarctica.
A partial solar eclipse involves the Moon passing between the Earth and the Sun, obscuring a part of it from view. In a total solar eclipse, the Moon completely blocks the Sun from view. This puts the Moon's surface entirely in shadow, with a white glow behind it.
However, an annular solar eclipse takes place either when the Moon is farthest from the Earth (in its orbit), or when the Earth is the closest to the Sun (in the Earth's orbit). Unlike a total solar eclipse, the shadowed Moon here has a ring of orange-red sunlight glowing around it, often called a "Ring of Fire".
Also, annular eclipses give the sky a similar orange-red colour, but total solar eclipses block sunlight during the daytime—especially during totality.
