With wireless earbuds like the Apple AirPods growing in popularity, as many smartphones now ditch the headphone jack entirely, Xiaomi on Wednesday launched the Redmi wireless Earbuds S at a discounted rate of Rs 1,799.

Touted as Redmi’s first audio product in India, the Earbuds S pack a 7.2 mm driver, 12 hours of battery life (4 hours with just the earbuds and 12 hours with the case), IPX4 rating giving it splash and sweat resistance and a special low-latency gaming mode. They come with a multi-function button, Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity and weigh just 4.1 g each.

The earbuds feature DSP Environmental Noise Cancellation which should help in removing ambient noise from the listening experience.

Xiaomi’s launch of the Redmi Earbuds S comes days after RealMe launched their Buds Air Neo, which retails at a higher price of Rs 2,999.

Anuj Sharma, Chief Marketing Officer, Xiaomi India said, “Redmi smartphones are known to be versatile and are benchmarks of performance in their category. We approached the audio category with the same credo. With Redmi Earbuds S we want to provide a stylish and exciting true wireless experience with class-leading low latency while gaming. Features like the compact design and IPX4 rating increase the versatility of Redmi Earbuds S, allowing usage across different scenarios.”

The Redmi Earbuds S undercuts the RealMe Earbuds S by over Rs 1,000, but the RealMe’s feature a larger 13mm driver. The Earbuds S are sold as the AidDots S in China.

The Redmi Earbuds S are available in black and can be purchased on mi.com, Mi homes, Mi Studios, Mi Stores, Mi Commerce and Amazon from Wednesday afternoon.
