Has flagging iPhone sales prompted Apple to update its two-year-old budget phone iPhone SE? A leaked video that appeared on a Chinese social media website has given rise to speculations about the launch of iPhone SE2 by middle of the year.

Though there has not been any official confirmation yet, Apple observers believe that the tech giant has been working on a successor to iPhone SE and that the mass production is already on. If the reports are true, there is a possibility that SE 2 will be unveiled at the Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), usually held in the first week of June.

Originally launched in March 2016, Apple has been making its popular iPhone SE in India since last year, to cut on tariff.

Conflicting reports speak about major changes to the hardware of SE to cosmetic design changes outside on the new handset dubbed as as 'SE 2018'. The speculations are based on the fact that the hardware of the entry-level priced iPhone SE is outdated.

Most reports agree that the successor to the iPhone SE will not be a total revamp. The visuals show the second-generation SE has a glass back that supports wireless charging, a change inspired by the premium iPhone X. The current SE comes with an aluminum back.

Sensing the need for a faster processor, iPhone SE 2 could be powered by a faster processor A10 Fusion chip-set, which is the same chip used in iPhone 7. It is believed that the new affordable handset will have a 2GB RAM accompanied with an option of 32 or 128 GB storage memory.

With the front looking almost the same as that of the iPhone SE, there seems to be no significant change in general design and screen size. The touch ID sensor and the headphone jack are still seen. However, Apple enthusiasts can hope for a better camera, up from its 12MP rear camera.
