Google has launched its much-awaited smart speakers Google Home and Google Home Mini for its users in India on Tuesday. Google Home and Google Home Mini can be bought exclusively on online retailer Flipkart from 2 pm onwards on Tuesday. Buyers will also get a six-month subscription of Google Play Music.

"Play music, switch the lights on and feed your curiosity. Get the most out of your #GoogleHome. #MakeGoogleDoIt," tweeted Google India, announcing the launch of Google Home and Google Home Mini.

Both the speakers come pricier for Indian buyers than in the US. Google Home has been priced at Rs 9,999 and Google Home Mini comes at Rs 4,999 in India. However, Google Home is priced at $129 (Rs 8,400) and the Google Home Mini comes for $49 (Rs 3,200) in the US.

Google launched its smart speaker Google Home in 2016 to help its users set up a "smart home". "With a simple “Ok, Google” or “Hey Google”, you can get answers, turn up the music, manage everyday tasks or even control smart devices around your home," stated Google.

"We are bringing our Voice Match functionality to India. This allows the Google Assistant to distinguish your voice from others in your family," said Rishi Chandra, VP, Product management at Google.

Google Home would directly compete with Amazon Echo, while Home Mini would position itself against the Echo Dot. Amazon is already a popular player in the smart, connected home speakers segment in India. It had, in last October, launched a series of smart speakers including the Echo Dot, Echo and Echo Plus priced at Rs 4,499, Rs 9,999 and Rs 14,999, respectively.

The speakers are compatible with both Android and iOS devices.
