Last year, Nokia took the globe by a pleasant surprise at the Mobile World Congress when it made way for the nostalgic return of Nokia 3310. This year too, HMD, the makers of Nokia phones, decided to play a similar card—and guess which phone? The same phone that swooned fans of The Matrix movie back in 1999—Nokia 8110 or the banana phone.

The retro model phone comes with a slightly curved body and a slider that lets you answer and end calls. The company has decided to roll out the phones in black and banana yellow versions. The new version comes with 4G connectivity and apps, including Google Assistant, Google Maps, Google Search, Facebook and Twitter. It supports VoLTE calling, features the Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform and has revamped the iconic Snake game. Nokia 8110 will be available from May for a global average retail price of 79 euros, excluding taxes and subsidies.

In addition to the banana phone, HMD Global has unveiled another four devices—the high-end Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 (new variant) and Nokia 1 at the ongoing Mobile World Congress 2018 (MWC) in Barcelona. "We are delighted to announce the expansion of our range with the introduction of five new devices, setting new benchmarks in smartphone design with Nokia 8 Sirocco and delivering our most accessible smartphone to date in Nokia 1," said Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer of HMD Global.

The three new Android smartphones—Nokia 8 Sirocco, Nokia 7 Plus and the new Nokia 6—will offer high quality software experience designed by tech giant Google.

Nokia 8 Sirocco comes with storytelling features, including enhanced "dual-sight", ZEISS optics and acoustics with Nokia spatial audio. According to the company, the ultra-compact powerhouse is their most beautiful smartphone to date.
