Israeli claims about death of Iranian security chief Ali Larijani coincided with a message he posted on social media, asking why Muslim countries worldwide have not extended support amid the "treacherous American-Zionist aggression".

Larijani, who is the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, posted a handwritten message in Persian, paying tribute to Navy personnel killed in airstrikes.

"The martyrdom of the brave members of the Navy of the Army of the Islamic Republic in Dena is part of the sacrifices of the proud nation that has emerged in this time of struggle against international oppressors. Their memory will always remain in the heart of the Iranian nation, and these martyrdoms will strengthen the foundations of the Army of the Islamic Republic for years to come within the structure of the armed forces," he wrote.

According ot Al Jazeera, Larijani was last spotted at the Al Quds rally on Friday where President Masoud Pezeshkian was also present.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz and IDF confirmed that Ali Larijani was killed in an overnight airstrike. But Tehran is yet to confirm the development. IDF claimed that after Khamenei's death, Larijani assumed the position of a de facto leader in the regime.

"As part of his role, Larijani led the political-security coordination of the Iranian terror regime and was involved in directing its international activity," IDF claimed.
