The United States has started withdrawing troops from its Middle East bases amid threats from Iran, according to reports citing American officials.

The revelation comes as Tehran warned its neighbouring countries that it would hit the US bases in their territories if Washington carries out attacks on Iran.

This means that US is possibly preparing to attack Iran and hence withdrew its troops as a precaution ahead of a potential conflict in the region.

Qatar had earlier stated that it has taken precautionary measures at the US-run Al Udeid Air Base to protect its citizens and residents. This base was struck by Iran in June when US attacked its nuclear facilities.

Iran's threats came after US President Donald Trump repeatedly vowed to intervene amid violent anti-regime protests in the country.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Israel is trying to drag the US into "fighting wars on its behalf". "President Trump should now know where to turn to stop the bloodshed," he posted on Telegram.

Iran's Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh said Tehran has "surprises" in store for any enemy that attacks it. "If these threats are turned into action, we will defend the country with full force and until the last drop of blood, and our defence would be painful to them," Press TV quoted his as saying during a security meeting.

He also claimed that the damage caused by Israel’s 12-day war on Iran in June has been repaired.

It has been reported that at least 2,600 people have been killed in the ongoing violent protests in Iran. The victims include protesters and security personnel, according to Reuters.
