An Iranian military commander has warned Israel that it would launch a third direct attack in the due course. IRGC Deputy Commander Ali Fadavi, however, gave no details about the potential attack against Israel, which Iran codenames 'True Promise'.

Iran attacked Israel first on April 13, 2024, codenamed 'True Promise 1'.  The second attack 'True Promise 2' came months later in October.

"Operation True Promise 3 will occur at the right time," Fadavi said while lashing out at Israel and the US. "Not a single day has passed without the world's evil-doers waging war against us. Though the form of their actions may have changed, there has not been a day without it. Who stands on the other side, confronting us? The Great Satan, America, and those who fought with it against us," Fadavi said, adding that the Islamic Republic had successfully weathered threats from adversaries since its inception.

It was Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic, who first used the word 'Great Satan' to describe the United States. He also used to call the US "a wounded snake".

Fadavi's statement comes amid reports that Israel was planning to strike Iran's nuclear sites. The reports quoting US intelligence suggest that Israel was mulling whether to use fighter jets or long-range missiles for any potential attack.

Briefing on Israel's goals, the intel said the IDF aims to destroy not only the nuclear facilities but also the ballistic missile capability. Israel's ultimate goal, however, is a regime change in Tehran. Israel would also need the support of the US for the mission, as it lacks the military planning to destroy nuclear sites, especially on mid-air refuelling and bombs that can penetrate the facilities deep underground.

Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu too vowed to counter the Iranian threat, stating that he agreed with the US that "the ayatollahs must not have nuclear weapons and also agreed that Iran's aggression in the region must be rolled back."
