At least 3 Indians dead, 5 others missing after 14-member boat capsizes near Mozambique's Beira Port

At least three Indians died and five others went missing on Friday after a launch boat ferrying crew members of a tanker capsized offshore, near Mozambique's Beira Port.

The Indian High Commission in Mozambique confirmed the tragedy on Saturday, adding that it was in contact with the families of those who lost their lives in the accident.

"5 other Indian nationals have been rescued," the Commission said in an X post, adding that one of the survivors of the accident was receiving medical attention at a hospital in Beira.

"A Consular Officer from Mission is in Beira and visited Indian national who survived the unfortunate boat mishap and is receiving medical attention in the hospital in Beira," it added in the post.

The launch boat accident reportedly took place during a routine crew transfer operation, but the exact cause is yet to be identified. A formal investigation is expected to be launched soon to determine the cause of the tragedy.

The Commission also shared the Mission's contact details on social media, adding that search and rescue operations were underway, and that it was "coordinating with local authorities regarding the missing 5 Indians".
