Any violence in the name of cow protection defames the cause, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat said on Sunday. "The law must be obeyed," he said.
His statements come in the background of the horrific lynching incident in Alwar, where a Muslim man was murdered, allegedly by gau rakshaks.
Five men were beaten up and their vehicle was vandalised by vigilantes over suspicion of cow smuggling in Rajasthan.
The incident took place on April 1. A Muslim man succumbed to his injuries three days after the incident.
Earlier, Rajasthan Home Minister Gulab Chand Katariya, while condemning the incident, said that a case has been registered against the smugglers as well as the cow vigilantes.
