Former telecom minister A. Raja welcomed the court verdict on the 2G spectrum allocation case and said all his actions as a minister had been for the benefit of the masses. Raja, along with MP Kanimozhi and other 16 accused, was acquitted on Thursday by a special CBI court in Delhi.
"All my actions as telecom minister had been for the benefit of the masses, to make wireless service more economical and widely available, in line with the National Telecom Policy (NTP) and the recommendations of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI)," Raja said in a statement.
The former Union minister said it has been repeatedly proven that the presumptive loss to the exchequer “which formed the basis for the conspiracy theorists to run amok”, was cooked up.
Saying that his firm belief in the "rightfulness" of his actions as well as his faith in the nation's justice system has been validated, the DMK leader asserted that he had felt "somewhat vindicated" even prior to the judgment.
Raja claimed that he had brought a revolution in the telecom sector. "It is not unknown to the history that a person who did a revolution is often termmed as a criminal," he said in his statement.
Commenting on the trial of the case, Raja said: "The learned Judge has held that it is not just a case of the prosecution failing to prove its allegations, but a case where the prosecution case itself was false, which was my submission from the very first day."
Raja thanked DMK chief M. Karunanidhi, its working president M.K. Stalin and the party cadres for their "unflinching support" during the trial of the case.
