The Karnataka Police is investigating a gruesome massacre in which a cab driver allegedly murdered seven people, including his wife and her family members, following a family dispute. The accused is Indusekhar, who is currently in the custody of the Rajajinagar police.

Local media reports say Indushekhar used a mortar and pestle to commit the gruesome murders. The deceased have been identified as Shekhar's wife Sunita, her mother  Rupavati, Sunita's brothers Shivakumar and Shankar, and Sunita's sisters-in-law, Divya and Nalini. Shekhar also killed Shivakumar's 7-year-old son, Puneeth.

Indusekhar allegedly had been fighting with his wife for some time over her closeness to her family. Though his in-laws tried to resolve the issues, their conflict continues. Indusekhar had restricted Sunita from visiting her hometown frequently. But Sunita did not cut off her ties with her hometown. This caused Indusekhar to develop a grudge against his wife and her family, the police said.

The modus operandi

Police said the accused first killed his wife, Sunita. He hit her on the head with a grinder before carrying her body in a car and dumping it at the foot of Nandi Hills. To avoid suspicion about his wife's disappearance, he lied to the neighbours that she had gone on a trip with her friends. He also switched off her mobile phone.

After this, Indusekhar invited Sunita’s brothers, Shivakumar and Shankar, along with their families, to join him for a liquor party at his house. He then beat them both to death. He then murdered all of them before dumping their bodies at the foot of Nandi Hills. After the murders, he cleaned the blood stains in the house and cleaned the grave with chemicals, the police said. The crimes were carried out over  10-20 days.

The incident came to light after Sankar’s wife Nalini’s mother reported her disappearance. Police questioned Indusekhar, and the truth came to light.

The car used to transport the bodies, along with other items related to the crime, has been seized. However, reports say that only the body of Puneet has been recovered.

Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge said the murder was not a spontaneous one, but a premeditated act. There are also unverified reports that he brainwashed his daughter into cooperating with him in the crime.

The relatives of the deceased have alleged that Indusekhar was involved in chain-snatching and robbery cases in the past. They have demanded that these past criminal activities be investigated as well.
