A 26-year-old man in Meerut tragically died from suspected poisoning after recording a video accusing his wife and in-laws of severe mental torture and harassment, prompting an active police investigation as his father remains hospitalized following a heart attack.

A 26-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh died on Sunday night after allegedly consuming a poisonous substance. An eight-minute video made by the man claimed that his wife and several other family members were responsible for his death.

The deceased was identified as Prabal Kumar Gupta, a resident of Patelpuri in Meerut. According to Aaj Tak, he was the son of the BJP Mandal Vice President, Rajiv Gupta. Gupta reportedly suffered a heart attack after he learnt of his son’s death and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

According to Prabal’s family, he left home on his scooter around 11:00am on Sunday. He allegedly consumed the poison sometime during the day and was later found unconscious near the Sadar police station.

Local residents took Prabal to the nearby Kailashi Hospital in Kankerkhera. He was then referred to Subarti Hospital for advanced treatment. However, he passed away while undergoing treatment.

In the video recorded before his death, Prabal blamed a dispute with his wife and in-laws as the reason behind his death. He also blamed his wife’s brother and aunt. He said he was subjected to mental torture since their marriage. Prabal alleged that his wife assaulted his mother, mistreated his sister and wanted to transfer all his property to her own name.

Prabal added that his wife made false yet serious allegations against him during a family counselling session at a women’s police station on Saturday. Kiran Gupta, Prabal’s mother, added that her daughter-in-law spent hours on the phone and pressured them to live separately. She demanded strict action against her daughter-in-law and her family.

According to family members, the young couple had developed issues soon after their marriage in November 2025.

Circle officer Daurala told the media that the police were in the process of mediation and that counselling sessions were being conducted to resolve problems between the couple.

The police are awaiting the postmortem report, and a detailed probe is underway. However, they have not received a formal complaint.
