Many southern states should brace for rainfall in the coming days as a depression lay over east Telangana and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh. The system, which is a remnant of Severe Cyclonic Storm "Murasu", is likely to cause isolated, very heavy rainfall over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, as well as isolated heavy rainfall over southern Odisha and southern Chhattisgarh today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said in a forecast.

Upper air cyclonic circulations have been identified over several regions, along with a "Western Disturbance as a trough" which can bring rainfall of varying degrees to many states, the IMD said.

Among the southern states, isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal until Friday, November 6, before making a comeback on November 9 and 10 (Monday and Tuesday).

Isolated to scattered rainfall over coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Rayalaseema, and south interior Karnataka is expected to persist until Tuesday, November 10. Similar weather is likely in north interior Karnataka until Thursday, November 5, coastal Andhra Pradesh until Tuesday, November 10, and Telangana until Saturday, November 7.

According to the IMD forecast, Tamil Nadu should brace for fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on November 7 and 8 (Saturday and Sunday). According to Wednesday's forecast, "Isolated thunderstorm & lightning likely over Kerala & Mahe and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal during 4th-8th November; Coastal Karnataka during 4th-5th November."

Will it rain across the country this week?

Elsewhere, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands should also expect rainfall of varying strength at least until November 10. Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall is likely in the region from Sunday, November 8.

Isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are possible in parts of Odisha today and tomorrow, the IMD said.

In central India, Maharashtra's Vidarbha region and Chhattisgarh are likely to get isolated to scattered rainfall at least until Friday, November 6.

The forecast added that it is unlikely for any other part of the country to get any significant rain during the specified period. "No significant weather likely over Northwest, West & Northeast India during the week," it said.
