A 37-year-old Manchester-based techie was found dead inside a jacuzzi of a Gurugram hotel.
The victim was identified as Pranjl Pathak and was originally from the Old Idgah Colony in Agra. He worked remotely for a Zurich-based research and development firm and had been living in Manchester for the last three years.
Dainik Bhaskar reported that Pathak was soon to be married in the UK and his family was preparing for the event.
According to media reports, Pathak returned to Agra from the UK on October 24. He arrived in Gurugram on Sunday after a brief vacation in Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.
Pathak reportedly dropped his friend off at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on Sunday night. To avoid returning to Agra late at night, he booked room number 302 at Orsam Stays, a popular boutique chain in Sector 53, via a mobile app. He was scheduled to check out by 11:00am on Monday.
Around 8:00pm, the housekeeping staff reportedly checked his room. However, Pathak failed to respond to repeated knocks on his door. Eventually, the room was opened, and Pathak was allegedly found lying unconscious, face down, in the jacuzzi in the washroom.
The hotel management immediately called a doctor and alerted the police control room. After an examination, the doctor declared him dead.
A forensic team and the Sector-53 police, who had arrived at the scene, took the body into custody. During the investigation, CCTV footage from the hotel’s entry and exit points and the third floor was reviewed.
According to the investigating officer, no outsider had entered Pathak’s room. The room was also locked from the inside. He was last seen taking food inside the room. Initial evidence has led the police to believe no foul play was involved.
However, Pathak’s family have been asked to clarify whether he had any ailments or took any medication, as a strip of pills was recovered from the room.
A further post-mortem report will reveal the exact cause of death. According to investigating officer Ajay, several possible causes, including a heart attack, slipping or suffocation while bathing in the jacuzzi, could have led to his death.
