Marking the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said unity makes India forge ahead as a nation while slamming the Opposition for wanting to divide the country.
Speaking during the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat, Modi said, "I said last year that we would not rest until the country was free from Naxalism and Maoism; that promise has been fulfilled."
Pointing out that while Naxals have been eliminated, 'Dimagi Naxals' are seeking to create unrest.
Modi also claimed that social media is being weaponised to spread rumours and malign India's image. "The citizens of the country must handle this together," he said.
"Constitution makes us accountable to people," said the PM. "It is our misfortune that Opposition has abandoned its duty and turned into obstructive force seeking to divide the country."
He claimed that this is not a healthy opposition, but sheer obstruction. "They have made this their core politics, and they are busy tearing apart the dignity and boundaries of the Constitution," the PM alleged. "Vicious plots are being hatched to divide and instigate conflict among the children of Mother India."
Modi claimed that the Opposition is driven by more than a decade of frustration and disappointment for not being in power.
"These people have now come out into the open. Who is secretly meeting whom abroad? Which anti-India forces are supporting them? Who is speaking the language of India's enemies? We must recognise all these patterns. We must confront them unitedly," he added.
He said India needs to secure its borders, stop infiltration and demographic changes while moving towards a secular civil code.
"Whenever the country takes on major resolves and makes big decisions, obstacles will arise, hindrances will be created, and we will have to battle storms. However, India is not going to stop now," he said.
Referring the Middle East conflict which has raised fuel prices across the world, Modi said, "It is India's strength that we did not let our citizens bear the brunt of global energy crisis."
