Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday extended Diwali wishes to the people of India, wishing them happiness, prosperity, and peace.

“The sacred festival of Deepavali is illuminating the entire nation. This Festival of Lights is testament to our resolve against darkness," he said in a video on X.

The PM also recalled his yearly Diwali tradition of visiting soldiers, which he noted would continue this time round as well. However, he did not disclose at which military station or post he planned to celebrate the festival.

"May this festival and the time ahead bring happiness, peace and prosperity into your lives," he added in the video.

The five-day Festival of Lights began with Dhanteras, which was on Friday, followed by Choti Diwali on Saturday. The main Diwali festival takes place on Sunday, followed by Govardhan Puja on Monday and Bhai Dooj on Tuesday, the fifth (and final) day.

The PM on Saturday had also met with Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and exchanged Diwali greetings.

Visuals from the meeting showed the Vice President applying tilak on PM Modi's forehead, with the two standing beside richly-adorned idols.

Vice President Radhakrishnan then met with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Ayodhya on Saturday, ahead of the upcoming 10th edition of Deepotsav.

The Saturday event is also set to see a dazzling display of 2,100 drones recreating the Ramayana, for which trials were conducted over the past few days.

"Every particle of Ayodhya is filled with joy and vibrancy today. A heartfelt welcome and tribute to the Hon’ble Vice President, who is arriving to grace this divine and magnificent event, to the distinguished ambassadors, high commissioners and diplomats from various friendly countries, to all the distinguished guests from India and abroad, and to the revered ascetics and devotees of Rama, on Lord Shri Rama’s sacred birthplace," CM Adityanath wrote in an X post, welcoming the Vice President and others to the festival.
