Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke on Wednesday accused the Centre of targeting social media users by taking down their accounts, alleging that the move was aimed at silencing critical voices.
Dipke said restricting citizens on platforms such as Instagram would not change ground realities but could deepen public distrust of the government.
“The Instagram crackdown is not going to work! The government is taking down thousands of posts and accounts every day, but it seems to be missing a fundamental point,” the CJP leader said in a post on X.
“Instagram is just a platform where people are raising their questions. The reasons behind those questions exist far beyond social media, and taking down accounts won't make them disappear,” he added.
Dipke further alleged that social media censorship would fuel distrust among the very people the government is expected to answer to.
Another CJP leader, Ashutosh Ranka, also claimed that thousands of posts were being blocked and accounts restricted.
“Thousands of Insta accounts have been restricted in India and lakhs of videos have been taken down,” Ranka said in a post on X.
The CJP leaders’ remarks come amid allegations that the government is censoring social media and removing posts critical of its handling of the ongoing agitation over the revision of electoral rolls.
