Delhi Police have apprehended a schoolgirl for allegedly sending a fake bomb threat email to her school in an attempt to get a day off from classes.

The Air Force Bal Bharati School on Lodhi Road received the threatening email on October 23, with the subject line, ‘Bombs Placed in Your Building’. Following a complaint from the school, the Cyber Police Station in South Delhi launched an investigation.

Police conducted a technical investigation and analysed digital evidence to trace the source of the email. The probe revealed that the alleged sender was a student of the same school who had sent the email with the intention of getting classes suspended for the day.

Following the investigation, legal action was initiated against the Child in Conflict with Law (CCL) under the applicable provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act, police said.

Delhi has recently witnessed a spate of bomb threats targeting schools. On Friday, three schools in the national capital received threatening emails, prompting security agencies to launch search operations.

Sardar Patel Vidyalaya in Lodhi Estate, Venkateshwar Global School in Rohini and Salwan Public School in Mayur Vihar received the threat emails, following which the authorities were alerted.

Bomb disposal squads, dog squads, fire department personnel and police teams conducted searches on the school premises. No suspicious objects were found during the operations.
