One person was reportedly killed as a massive fire broke out in five to six shops in Noida’s Sector 126 on Saturday. Fire department personnel and police rushed to the scene and have started rescue operations.

According to local media reports, a massive explosion that occurred in a commercial building near Gate Number 2 of Amity University caused the fire. The university has several restaurants and tea shops, and the police confirmed that the fire was caused by an LPG cylinder exploding in one of the shops around noon. Eyewitnesses confirmed to local media that the fire was so intense that several LPG cylinders exploded one after another.

The rapidly spreading fire reportedly caused cylinders in the other shops to explode. The explosion’s severity shook the entire surrounding area. Video footage shows black smoke billowing into the sky due to the fire as people run for cover.

Pradeep Kumar, Chief Fire Officer of Noida, told ANI, “We have found a large number of LPG cylinders inside. We are currently addressing this issue and conducting search and rescue operations to check whether anyone is trapped.”
