Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday said that there have been multiple attempts to “weaken India”, but these efforts to dismantle the country are bound to fail.
His remarks come amid ongoing protests, led by the CJP, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision process (SIR).
While speaking at the RSS’s Vijayadashami celebrations in Nagpur, Bhagwat drew parallels with the French and Albanian protests, claiming that these are “western forces” trying to destabilise the Indian society. He called these protests a “storm from the west” and alleged that these groups were trying to maintain their influence across the world, and especially in India.
“Look at what is happening in France and Albania, and at the developments in Bangladesh and Nepal. External influence is fuelling such unrest, with talk of regime change. But regime change by itself does not necessarily solve a country’s problems,” Bhagwat said.
He said that it is a false belief that drives people to think circumstances will differ if the regime changes.
“India is their main target because India is progressing. These evil forces know that they cannot disrupt India the way it has moved ahead with decisive policies in the last few decades; they are trying to dismantle India and the Sangh,” he said at the Vijayadashami Utsav.
Though he noted that protests are an essential part of democracy, he added that they should seek solutions to essential problems rather than create divisions in the country. He cautioned the audience that political protests tend to create tension and disrupt public order.
“Agitations should aim at solutions. It should ot lead to ill-will in society. We should not allow cheap publicity to overcome our intellect and wisdom. Not agitation but the rise of society as a whole provides solutions,” the chief said.
The RSS Vijayadashami Utsav is the annual event of the Sangh, held on the festival of Dussehra (Vijayadashami) at its headquarters in Reshimbagh, Nagpur. The Utsav also marks the organisation’s anniversary. The Sangh was founded in 1925 and observed its 101st foundation day on October 20.
