A video from the Cockroach Janta Party's (CJP) Tiranga march on Friday went viral after it allegedly showed a woman slapping security personnel in a scuffle.
The purported video shows the woman, reportedly a YouTuber, who claimed to have slapped a paramilitary officer near Gate No 6 of the Rajiv Chowk Metro Station, as per a News18 report, citing police sources.
The Delhi Police is now examining the footage to identify the woman, who was seen shouting at the officer before slapping him, after which she was held back by some of the other protesters.
The report also added that the officer slapped at Palika Bazar (in Delhi's Connaught Place) was a member of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), though THE WEEK could not independently verify this.
At least 150 protesters, including Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) chief Abhijeet Dipke and All India Students' Association (AISA) head Neha Bora, were detained in the latest agitation against alleged vote theft during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar.
Friday's protest was also a response to the detention of CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were remanded to judicial custody after they entered Jantar Mantar on October 13 to unfurl the national flag, even after the Centre had de-notified it as a protest site.
While Bora was released on Saturday morning after overnight detention, Dipke was granted a conditional bail much later on, under which he was made to sign a peace bond and furnish a surety of ₹50,000.
