Senior CPI(M) leaders, including former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and party general secretary M.A. Baby, were detained by Delhi Police while heading toward a Jantar Mantar protest demanding the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar. The demonstration, organized alongside the Cockroach Janta Party, faced heavy police surveillance and a swift crackdown by authorities. Condemning the actions as a murder of democracy, the CPI(M) Polit Bureau stated that the Narendra Modi government's repressive measures would fail to deter ongoing public protests.

The leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), including former Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and party general secretary M.A. Baby, were detained ahead of the Jantar Mantar protest seeking the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

Left leaders including John Brittas MP, former Kerala Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal, K.K. Shailaja, P. Rajeev, M.V. Govindan, P.K. Sreemathy and Brinda Karat were among those taken into custody by the Delhi Police.

The Left leaders were en route to join the Cockroach Janta Party's protest against the SIR row of the Election Commission of India.

"This is a murder of democracy," Vijayan told media after detained. "Attempts are made to snatch away the right of people to elect their government...This protest against Gyanesh Kumar will not end today," he said.

Another batch of CPI(M) Polit Bureau members including B.V. Raghavulu, Arun Kumar, Vijoo Krishnan, Mariam Dhawale and central committee members were also among those detained.

The CPI(M) Polit Bureau has condemned the widespread repression in Delhi. "It is obvious that the Narendra Modi government has been rattled by the widespread protests. It is equally obvious that these repressive measures will fail to deter the people out on the streets. These protests were carried out despite intense police surveillance and their presence in large numbers in front of our offices in Delhi," the statement said.

"The BJP government has shown extreme cowardice and the complete inability to conduct democratic governance," it added.
