CJP Jantar Mantar protest: Congress deploys legal team to aid detained protesters in Delhi
Student wings of the party are preparing separately for the upcoming opposition INDIA bloc protest scheduled for October 12
Congress has mobilized its legal team in Delhi to provide immediate assistance, track detainees, and arrange bail for individuals arrested during the ongoing CJP and anti-CEC protests. While student wings are preparing for the upcoming opposition INDIA bloc rally, legal representatives remain stationed across district courts to protect protesters' rights. These demonstrations reflect a coordinated multi-front political and non-political opposition against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

As the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) protests are underway in Delhi and police have put in strict restrictions, Congress has mobilised its legal team and instructed its team of advocates to help people who are detained by police.
However, Congress' other wings like student wings may not join the protests. An Indian youth Congress member said that they are preparing for the Opposition INDIA bloc protest with allied groups, which is scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026. These protests are part of the broader, ongoing 2026 anti-CEC protests opposing Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and alleging that the "BJP-Kumar" are running a nexus to erode the country's democracy.
"For now, the protests have two fronts: one is political, and another is non-political; they have one cause and are doing things separately," a political analyst said.
In the CJP Jantar Mantar protests, the Congress had also instructed its frontal organisation, Sena Dal, to help the protesters by providing them with water and food.
Sunil Kumar, Legal Congress chairman of Delhi and human rights advocate, said, "When directed by the AICC, we are ready to do our job. If there is any kind of emergency, our teams are there in all the district courts. Our teams are ready. If need be, we can pump more advocates for the affected people in protests."
Legal teams play an important role during democratic protests; they find out the detainees, contact police stations, and establish whether anyone has been formally arrested.
"The lawyers visit detainees and provide legal assistance; we speak to them, understand the circumstances of their detention, and advise them about their rights. We later apply for bail where legally applicable, seek release if the detention is unlawful, or represent detainees before the relevant court," a lawyer said.
