Massive security deployments and the detention of 7,000 protesters marked a tense Saturday in Delhi as the Cockroach Janta Party attempted to march to Jantar Mantar. Key leaders, including prominent opposition figures and activists, were taken into custody, drawing sharp condemnation from the INDIA bloc, which compared the crackdown to an undeclared Emergency. Amid reports of isolated stone-pelting and injuries to police personnel, the opposition has announced a large-scale demonstration for Monday while the Supreme Court prepares to address related transport disruptions.

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) said it will march to Jantar Mantar on Sunday even as Delhi Police on Saturday detained 7,000 protesters, including CJP leaders as well as veteran leaders from the INDIA bloc.

With 30,000 security personnel deployed in the capital, not a single protester was allowed to enter the designated protest site, Jantar Mantar, on Saturday. CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained when the landed in Delhi airport while YouTuber Dhruv Rathee was taken into custody from his Delhi residence.

The INDIA bloc compared the situation in Delhi to an "undeclared Emergency" and the Leader of Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, urged the youth to keep protesting. "We are going to ensure that this regime and the people who have attacked the Constitution are defeated," said Rahul.

The INDIA bloc has announced a massive protest in Delhi on Monday. This comes after four former chief ministers, including Mamata Banerjee, Arvind Kejriwal, Pinarayi Vijayan and Manik Sarkar, were detained. Mamata said she will join the Monday protest and cancelled her trip to Kolkata.

Amid the crackdown, it was reported that at least six police personnel were injured during the detention of protesters. Officials alleged that some protesters hurled stones at police at Imtiaz Ali Marg near the Akashvani Bhawan and near the Hanuman Temple. Officials said an FIR is likely to be registered against those who attacked police.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court will hear a plea seeking contempt action against authorities for not following the court order to ensure that metro and train services are not suspended completely.

Justifying the crackdown on protesters, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta asserted that the capital will not be held hostage. Delhi BJP president and Union minister Harsh Malhotra said the CJP's protest call proved to be a "complete flop".
