The Delhi Police has asked the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to consider closing about 57 metro stations from Friday night at 9 pm, on October 9, ahead of proposed protests in the national capital.
The move comes ahead of the Cockroach Janta Party and AISA’s proposed protests against the Chief Election Commission on Saturday.
The restrictions will continue till October 10, until the situation normalises.
The stations identified for closure include Janpath, Patel Chowk, Central Secretariat, Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Mandi House, ITO, Delhi Gate, Khan Market, Supreme Court, Indraprastha, INA, Hauz Khas, Lajpat Nagar, Kashmere Gate, Karol Bagh, Jama Masjid, Vishwavidyalaya, Seelampur, Shahdara and Rohini West.
Lok Kalyan Marg, Jor Bagh, Jangpura, Ashram, Jamia Millia Islamia, Okhla Vihar, Civil Lines, GTB Nagar, Adarsh Nagar, Jahangir Puri, Welcome, Yamuna Vihar and Rithala are also on the list. The INA station on both metro lines has also been included.
The restriction extended to several parts of Delhi, including central Delhi, south Delhi, north Delhi and areas in east and north-east Delhi.
The government also announced shutting railway services to the New Delhi Railway Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in view of the anticipated congestion on Saturday.
The CJP’s ‘Chalo Delhi’ march on October 10 will call for the resignation of the CEC Gyanesh Kumar amid the row over the Special Intensive visit conducted by the Election Commission of India.
The Delhi police, meanwhile, have denied permission to the groups for the protest, citing late submission. CJP leaders say that they are ready to be arrested during the demonstrations.
