The Indian Railways has cancelled all Mail and Express trains scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin railway stations between 4 am and 2 pm on October 10, Saturday. Severe road traffic congestion around the two stations has been cited as the reason for the decision.
Trains departing their originating stations after 2 pm on October 9 have also been reportedly cancelled.
"In view of anticipated severe road traffic congestion in the area around New Delhi Railway Station and Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station on 10th October 2026, the following is decided: All Mail/Express Trains starting at source after 14:00 hrs today, i.e. 9th October 2026, which are reaching New Delhi/Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station on 10th October 2026 from 04:00 hrs to 14:00 hrs, be cancelled at source," an official release by the Indian Railways said.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was asked by the Delhi Police to reduce train frequency, apart from closing operations at 57 stations from 9 pm on October 9. The idea is to ensure these stations remain shut until the situation is brought under control at Jantar Mantar, news reports said.
Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, New Delhi, Kashmere Gate, Mandi House, ITO, Patel Chowk, and Supreme Court are among the Delhi metro stations that the police department wants regulated. Prominent metro lines including Hauz Khas, Lajpat Nagar, Jamia Millia Islamia, and Sarai Kale Khan–Nizamuddin are likely to be affected by the move.
Earlier, the Delhi Police confirmed that they had denied permission for a protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and several student organisations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar at Jantar Mantar on Saturday.
The police department cited the late submission of the application and rule violations during a previous demonstration as reasons for denying permission. Section 163 (prohibitory orders) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which empowers authorities to issue orders to prevent potential disturbances, has been imposed in the New Delhi district, an official said.
