Indian law enforcement agencies have secured the deportation of notorious narco trafficking kingpin Navpreet Singh from Turkey.

Singh had obtained citizenship under the assumed identity of Navab Virk. Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that the Singh had continued to smuggle heroin and methamphetamine to India from Afghanistan after changing his identity.

Our agencies tracked him down, ripping apart veil after veil to unmask his true identity, and secured his deportation. Today he has been brought back to India and put behind bars in connection with cases involving drug trafficking and other crimes he is accused of. Congratulations to all the agencies for this success.” Shah said in a post on X.

People close to the matter told HT that Singh is wanted in cases in Punjab and Delhi.

Singh is the second drug kingpin to be deported from Turkey. Earlier, central agencies coordinated with Turkish counterparts to deport Salim Dola, an aide of the wanted terrorist and gangster Dawaood Ibrahim.

Shah had announced last month that India would be free of drug cartels by 2029.

Singh will be formally taken into custody and face multiple charges related to transnational drug trafficking, criminal conspiracy and organised crime after his return to India.
