After the Congress set up its new district president system under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan in Madhya Pradesh last year to expand its grassroots network, it was able to start its rebuilding process in the state. Now, a year later, the party has also started to seek accountability from the same district heads.
The party has marked out a few district presidents who have been unable to perform in the last few months and is subsequently planning to replace them in the coming days. "The cadre is functioning smoothly, and where it is not, we are planning to replace them. We will replace seven district presidents soon in order to rejuvenate these places. The process has already started, and they will be replaced soon," a Congress leader in the know said.
The party has suffered from a lack of accountability the most in the past, according to analysts. This was also because, before the new system was implemented, there were hundreds of positions that were distributed ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections. This had made it difficult for the party to operate and function smoothly in the state. Party insiders suggest that one area where the party has sped up its progress is the distribution of positions according to the needs of the party.
"If we need someone in an official position, then he is appointed. Otherwise, there is nothing like keeping people happy by giving them positions, which was the case earlier," a party leader said.
However, leaders from other factions within the party claim that there were eleven district presidents, out of the 71 the party has in the state, whose performance has been in the red. "If the party replaces all eleven district presidents, they have to send a positive message across the cadre," a leader holding an official position in the party said.
