As per a forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), most parts of central Maharashtra and some districts in the Konkan region are likely to receive rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms on Wednesday. A ‘yellow alert’ has been issued for Raigad and Thane districts for thunderstorms and rain, local media reports said.
Maharashtra will experience rain until Thursday, the IMD forecast said. Several parts of Thane, Sangli, and Satara districts reportedly received rain on Tuesday. In some areas, more than 50 mm of rain was recorded within just two hours, Marathi media reported.
Light to moderate rain is likely in Mumbai, Palghar, Sindhudurg, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and Beed districts, TV9 Marathi said. Thunderstorms and rain are also likely in Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Kolhapur, the Kolhapur Ghat, Sangli, Satara, the Satara Ghat, Pune, Solapur, Ahilyanagar, and Nashik on Tuesday. A yellow alert has been issued for these regions, the TV9 Marathi report said.
Rain is also likely in the interior parts of Marathwada. If the weather system remains active, the retreating monsoon may provide some relief.
The southwest monsoon has begun its retreat, and in a few days, it is expected to withdraw from Maharashtra. "Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Gujarat Region, Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada during September 26–October 2; Saurashtra & Kutch during September 30–October 2," the IMD forecast released on Tuesday said.
The eastern and western suburbs of Mumbai received more rain compared to the island city areas. Some parts of south Mumbai received only light showers, news agency PTI reported on Tuesday evening.

In the eastern suburbs, MCMCR (Powai) recorded 59.4 mm of rain, followed by Paspoli Powai Municipal School (Powai) with 53 mm and the Building Proposal Office (Vikhroli West) with 44.4 mm. S Ward Office (Bhandup) and Tagore Nagar Municipal School (Vikhroli) recorded 35.8 mm and 33.6 mm of rain, respectively.
